Video: Alan Wilder/Depeche Mode Collection exclusive footage

From rare synthesizers to stage costumes, here’s a new video of the Alan Wilder/Depeche Mode Collection

Here's a look back to one of our big music memorabilia highlights of 2011: September's sale of the Alan Wilder/Depeche Mode Collection.

From 1981-1995, Alan (pictured top right) was keyboardist and arranged in the legendary '80s synth rocker group Depeche Mode. His autograph was once so desired that it sparked a near-riot involving 20,000 people in LA.

Alan told us more about this incident in his exclusive interview with Paul Fraser Collectibles. We spoke with him in the run-up to the sale.

Now the UK-based auction house behind the sale has released exclusive footage of the event, which you can watch above. Historic musical instruments, stage outfits and rare records were among the rare auctioned memorabilia items.

Alan Wilder's collection offered various rare synthesizers like this Emulator

Bidders travelled from Canada, Russia and across Europe for a chance to own a piece of Alan's legacy. In the end, the sale netted more than £250,000, with 99% of lots sold.

Big highlights included a Knight Gretsch Anniversary guitar used by Wilder's band mate, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Martin Gore. The guitar was used during Depeche Mode's blockbuster 'World Violation' and 'Devotional' tours.

It appeared with a pre-sale estimate of £3,000-5,000, eventually doubling that to bring £10,400 (£11,960 inc buyers premium).

Given the success of the Alan Wilder/Depeche Mode Collection sale, expect to see many more big sales of 1980s music memorabilia in the future.
