Madonna memorabilia may not be everyone's first thought of a sound alternative investment, yet the singer has been providing several savvy investors with significant profits over recent years.
Take Madonna's autograph. According to the PFC40 Autograph Index, her signature rose in value by 8.82% pa between 2000 and 2011, from £375 ($590) to £950 ($1,490).
These encouraging figures are matched by sales of the singer's stage worn items.
A Dolce and Gabbana bra from her "Live down Under" tour of Australia in 1994 sold for $12,500 at a Sotheby's auction in 2010, 212.5% more than its $4,000 estimate.
And the black gown worn by Madonna in her role as Eva Peron in 1996 film Evita sold for $22,500 at a US auction in 2011, 275% above its $6,000 estimate.
Madonna's global recognition is a key factor in the strong sales. There is a large body of Madonna collectors out there, and a growing number of investors looking to capitalise on her popularity by buying now and selling on in years to come.
