Signed works by a number of legendary authors are set to draw collectors from far and wide
With rare books, a quality dust jacket can boost their value considerably. And, going by the auction's name, there'll be plenty of these at Nation Book Auctions' upcoming "Books and Ephemera - Signed, Dustjackets, Antique, etc" sale on August 14.
A fine assortment of books and ephemera will be offered, including important antique and vintage literary classics - many of which bear signatures from noted authors.
Also found throughout the catalog is a large collection of antique and vintage volumes in scarce dust jackets which show very well in protective mylar covers.
According to National Book Auctions, the bulk of the volumes in this collection are first editions, many from acclaimed authors and covering topics such as travel and exploration of various regions including Western America.
Also found throughout this catalog is an interesting group of vintage and antique artwork and collectibles from China.
A number of antiquarian treasures adorned with legendary signatures will
Autographed highlights in the sale include an original check hand-signed by Charles Dickens, tipped-in to a first book edition of "Little Dorrit."
Also of note is the complete five-volume set of "Etchings and Drypoints of Frank W. Benson," published over several decades and rarely found complete, with pencil signatures under the original etchings in volumes one through four.
Additionally offered are signed volumes from acclaimed authors such as William Faulkner, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Aldous Huxley and poet James Whitcomb Riley.
NBA's online sale will likely attract top-end bidders from far and wide, especially for the autographed books whose collectibility and value will be enhanced by their signatures.
Examples of iconic novels whose values have been significantly boosted by the presence of the author's autograph include James Joyce's landmark tome Ulysses. A rare signed copy sold for $460,000, trouncing its $200,000-300,000 listing, in 2002.
National Book Auctions is based in Ithaca, New York.
