Tiffany 'Dragonfly' glass lamp leads $1.9m New York Art & Design auction

This Tiffany 'Dragonfly' leaded glass and gilt-bronze table lamp was the star lot at Christie's auction

A 20th Century Decorative Art & Design auction in New York, this week (March 8), saw another sale victory for the renowned glassware company Tiffany & Co. A Tiffany Studios 'Dragonfly' leaded glass and gilt-bronze table lamp lead the auction, bringing $92,500.

The rare Tiffany lamp dates to circa 1910 and measures 25 ½ inches in height. The lamp's base is stamped "TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 6092".

According to auctioneer Christie's, the lamp was sold by a private New York collector and exceeded its $70,000-90,000 presale estimate. The lamp was previously part of the noted estate of Julius Reiner in New York.

The circa 1910 Tiffany lamp's lucky winning bidder is a US trader. So maybe this lamp will re-emerge for sale in the not-too-distant future.

Christie's New York sale brought $1,998,063 overall, with 78% sold by lot and $91% sold by value.

Other highlights included a Tiffany Studios 'Peony' Leaded Glass and Bronze Table Lamp, circa 1910, which also sold for $92,500 (within its $80,000-120,000 estimate) to a US private buyer.
