Christie's is to offer the renowned art collection of Siggi and Sissi Loch in its forthcoming June 27-28 sale in London.
However, this is no ordinary art collection. Each of the 45 artworks on offer are in some way associated with the colour blue and all originate from post-war and contemporary artists. The auction, entitled A Kind of Blue, is named after a Miles Davis track and neatly links to Siggi Loch's career as a jazz producer.

Yves Klein provides the leading lot of the blue artwork on offer
"Over the past 20 years, every time we met I was greatly impressed how the art collector and jazz producer Siegfried Loch understood the link between music and visual art. Since purchasing the painting Blaukang by Ernst Wilhelm Nay at a Christie's sale, Siggi and Sissy Loch have put together a remarkable collection dedicated to the fascination with the colour blue," commented Christie's Christiane Grafin zu Rantzau.
The main draw of the sale will come from from two Yves Klein works, with Rélief éponge bleu hoping to lead bids at £6-9m. Klein will also supply the expected top lot of the entire sale with his Le Rose du Bleu, an estimate for which has not been released.
Expectations are high for the Yves Klein works after his FC-1 sold for $36.4m in Christie's previous post-war and contemporary art sale.
A magnificent Gerhard Richter work, part of his Abstrakts Bild series, will also star with a more modest estimate of £600,000-800,000. Siggi Loch is known for his ability to discover new artists, with Gerhard Richter among them. Loch bought a number of early works from the artist while he was relatively unknown in the art world, some of which will be offered at the auction.
Outside of the collection, a self portrait from Francis Bacon is expected to excite bidders as one of just 12 full-body portraits created by the artist. The estimate for this item is only available from Christie's upon request.
