Ruyao Washer dish bowl could bring $10m in Hong Kong antiques auction

This 1,000-years-old Ruyao Washer dish from the Northern Song Dynasty could auction for HK$80m

This rare Chinese bowl was made almost 1,000 years ago, and could bring HK$80m ($10m) or more at a Hong Kong auction, next month.

Dating to the Northern Song Dynasty (1086-1125), the Ru dish is shaped like a flower and believed to be the only one of its kind in the world.

Collectibles experts know of only 79 surviving Ru dishes.

This unique example, the Ruyao Washer, is the only one designed with a flower shape. It also has an opaque glaze.

The sale is expected to further consolidate Hong Kong's status as one of the world's biggest auction centres alongside London and New York.

The Ruyao Washer will be auctioned by Sotheby's on April 4.

Other recent big sales in the region included a fine Swiss Patek Philippe pink gold ref 3939 watch. It sold for HK$3.98m (roughly US$513,200). You can read our full report about the Patek Philippe watch here.
