Paul McCartney Linda Photo

Linda McCartney's pensive portrayal of Paul in Cheshire sale

A print of Paul McCartney by his wife Linda is expected to bring $23,900 in a Cheshire, UK sale

A photograph by Linda McCartney of her husband, Paul could reach £15,000 in Cheshire later this week.

The former professional photographer portrays a contemplative Paul McCartney gazing from a balcony, with his reflection captured in a window. The piece, entitled Paul, Venice, was first seen at the James Hyman Gallery in London in 2008 as part of an exhibition of Linda's work, 10 years after her death in 1998.

The piece is numbered one in an edition of 25, and will be sold with a certificate signed by the ex-Beatle and his daughter, Mary who is also a photographer.

Linda first took to photography when she obtained a press pass to a Rolling Stones gig in 1966, which unwittingly launched her career. She was working as a receptionist for Town & Country magazine at the time, before later being asked to be the house photographer at the legendary Fillmore East venue in New York.

Linda became renowned for her documentation of the "Swinging Sixties" in London, photographing some of the biggest names in pop culture. In 1968 she became the first woman ever to have her work published on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, with her images of Eric Clapton.

Paul McCartney has always endorsed her photography. In an interview on the James Hyman Gallery exhibition he remarked: "The photographs not only illustrate her incredible talent as an artist, but as someone who was very much connected to the culture of the times and wasn't afraid to challenge herself or her subject."

The sale is to take place on April 19, 2012 with public viewings beginning today (April 17, 2012).

Paul Fraser Collectibles is very pleased to present this signed photograph of Paul McCartney in a recording studio, also taken by Linda.
