Auctioneer Christie's is gearing up to help the environment with its next Green Auction: BID to Save the Earth. The sale will be held at New York's Rockefeller Center on April 11.
Christie's held its first Green Auction in 2010. The star-studded event will raise significant funds for four leading nonprofits organisations: Oceana, Conservation International (CI), Central Park Conservancy (CPC), and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Actress Salma Hayek is set to make an appearance this year, alongside David and Susan Rockefeller. There is a live musical performance by Grace Potter of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. Some of New York's most leading environmentalists, celebrities and philanthropists will also be in attendance.
Funds from the auction will be donated to various water-conservation projects.
The above organisations are only the latest in a long line of charity firms to embrace the potential of collectibles as 'alternative assets'.
Last year, in January, Bonhams raised £78,000 ($122,098) with a percentage going to Greenpeace with its sale of a rare Banksy artwork.
Banksy's artwork had originally been produced for Greenpeace's Save or Delete campaign. The poster, showing characters from the jungle book facing execution, was printed but never put into circulation because of protectionist policies at Disney.
