Phillips de Pury & Company's upcoming Editions art auction in New York could prove that you don't need to be a millionaire to buy the 20th century's more important artworks.
Featured artists in the auction include Helen Frankenthaler, 1928-2011, who passed away on Tuesday of this week (December 27).
National Medal of Arts awardee Frankenthaler was a major contributor to the development and history of post-war American painting, particularly abstract expressionism.
Frankenthaler's art remained vibrant and varied throughout her life. Her works starred in numerous high-profile exhibitions across six decades, from the early-'50s through to 2011.
This piece, Sunshine After Rain, dates to 1987 and is estimated at $10,000-15,000.

Phillips de Pury & Company's auction will be held on January 25.
As with the death of Cy Twombly earlier this year, Frankenthaler's passing could lead to renewed appreciation and exposure for her important artworks.
Since Twombly's death last July, his etching on paper dated to 1967, Note I, sold for $52,000 above its $50,000 estimate in October.
That sale was also held by Phillips De Pury, whose upcoming art auction in New York on January 25 will undoubtedly see similar success.
