1953 Connaught

1953 Connaught AL10 auction to make $467,660 at Silverstone?

A classic 1953 Connaught AL10 Grand Prix car is coming to auction at Silverstone, UK

A 1953 Connaught AL10, regarded by many connoisseurs as the most beautiful British Grand Prix car ever produced, is coming to auction in the UK later in the month.

Given a £300,000 high estimate, it is set to highlight a superb range of racing cars set to sell at Silverstone Auctions on July 21. The auction is the centrepiece of the Silverstone Classic weekend taking place at the historic race circuit.

The recently restored four-cylinder 1960cc Formula 2 vehicle, which competed in the 1953 world championship, has had six owners in 58 years, having been sold into private ownership in 1954. It last sold in 1996.

A Cooper Bristol Historic Grand Prix car, which spent the majority of its 1950s racing career in Australia, and is estimated at £160,000, will also star.

More recent racing car offerings include a 1979 McLaren M28, estimated at £220,000, and a £135,000-valued 1983 Theodore.

Meanwhile hopes are high that a Michael Schumacher 1992 Benetton B192-02 could make £200,000.

Nick Whale, the managing director of Silverstone Auctions, commented: "Befitting the world's largest classic motor racing festival, we have secured a fine mix of cars, many with competition winning credentials.

"However, there's also a wide variety of road going models spanning eight decades, many of these modern classics, ideally suited for weekend motoring, and others whose timeless elegance will be sure to turn heads wherever they go."

A number of 1970s single-seater race cars from the Sytner collection will also auction. We will bring you a full preview of these vehicles closer to the time, so make sure you check in with us regularly.
