A trio of Great British medals from the London 1908 Olympics are set to auction this month

A collection of three bronze, silver and gold medals from the London 1908 Olympics are set to auction later in the month.
The three medals, all awarded to Great Britain competitors, will highlight an Olympic memorabilia auction on July 24, and will appear in a single lot with a £20,000 high estimate.

The gold medal was awarded to Charles Sydney, a member of the victorious water polo team, while the silver medal was given to a runner up in the running deer competition, a shooting event involving a moving deer-shaped target.
The bronze medal comes from the bantam boxing competition.
It is the perfect time for these pieces to appear at auction, with the sale taking place just days before the London 2012 opening ceremony. Even so, we feel the items would do well to meet their £20,000 valuation, considering previous sales. A 1908 Olympics silver medal from the men's figure skating sold for £3,500 in May 2008.
An original Stockholm 1912 poster will also auction for an estimated £3,500. Stockholm was the first time an Olympics had featured an official poster.
The auction also offers a further opportunity to own a London 2012 Olympic torch for an anticipated £5,000. They have been the subject of much debate after relay participants have been keenly flogging them to willing bidders.
One of just 22 torches made for the 1952 Helsinki Games achieved €290,000 (£239,000) at Christie's in April 2011.
The most valuable piece of Olympic memorabilia ever auctioned is the marathon winner's cup from the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, which sold for £541,250 in April.
