One of the most significant baseball artefacts, the 1912 World Series trophy, will be offered by Heritage Auctions on August 2 at the National Sports Collectors Covention in Baltimore, MA.

"No individual, whether player, manager, owner, critic or spectator, who went through the world's series of 1912 ever will forget it. There never was another like it."
This was the impassioned description of the ground-breaking tournament provided by John B Forster in the 1913 Spalding's Official Baseball Guide. The 1912 World Series between the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox is one that baseball fans will always remember, and one that saw Fred Snodgrass' famed "$30,000 muff".
Thanks to Snodgrass' fated fumble, the Red Sox went on to win the series after an intense game eight. The season which preceded their epic win has been recognised by historians as the most important in Red Sox history, marking the opening of the historic Fenway Park and the start of a run that would see them win four world championships in a seven season span.
The trophy presented to manager Jake Stahl has been described as "technically priceless" by the auction house, though an estimated value of $300,000+ has been set. It will be accompanied in a lot with a photograph of the winning team by renowned baseball photographer, Carl Horner, which is the only known representation in public or private hands.
Also featuring in the auction will be the most talked about baseball card discovery of recent years - the Black Swamp find. Learn more here.
