Video of the Week... Depeche Mode's Alan Wilder shows you his unique collection

Vintage equipment, vinyl and clothing used to make music history is auctioning in Manchester, UK

"Since my teenage years I've been an avid collector of interesting and unique musical items," says Alan Wilder, former member of Depeche Mode.

"[But] my needs have altered a bit since laptops and soft synthesisers have come to the fore," he told UK newspaper the Manchester Evening News. "Even though I'm emotionally attached, passing on some vintage gear and historical items seemed like a good way to start."

And this is no ordinary vintage gear, but the instruments used by Wilder to help revolutionise pop music between the years 1982-1995 during his time in Depeche Mode.

Not only were Depeche Mode pioneers but their innovative hits, including Just Can't Get Enough and Enjoy the Silence, saw the group rack-up more than 100 million worldwide album and single sales.

In today's two Videos of the Week - both from a 2011 documentary film directed by Martin Vladar -  Alan Wilder personally shows you around his unique collection which includes vintage equipment, vinyl and clothing relating to the leather-clad cult electro band.

From a collector's point of view, the sale will also be interesting to see the pioneers of 1980s synth pop potentially consolidate their legacy on the collectibles markets. Until now, the music memorabilia markets have traditionally been dominated by the likes of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

As Wilder later told Paul Fraser Collectibles: "[It] should be a very interesting auction. We have a lot of interest already from a collection of extremely hard core Depeche Mode enthusiasts worldwide."

These worldwide enthusiasts could push the value of Wilder's collection all the way up to £200,000 ($329,600) when Omega Auctions sells it in Manchester, UK, on September 3.
